Korean Painting to Come

Years back, I used to frequent a liquor store in midtown and there was always this Korean woman that would ask about my photography and paintings. I always told her I would dig making a painting of her in her shop. She adamantly refused and did not want her photo taken. Well, I snuck one in on one fine day and it's gonna land on canvass soon .. stay tuned ..

The Angry Foot Painting

Years back, I lived in a house in Midtown that had a whole yard of angry stickers that would kill your feet if they found your skin on a barefoot day. This happened quite a bit to me. I made a painting to eulogize all that blood that hung in the lobby of that house. It went to a good friend that lived across the hall .. Mr. Chad Parks .. Enjoy ..

Costa Rica Travel Art Drop

While on an Overseas Adventure Travel trip to Costa Rica, Sarah Barrows dropped a picture at San Francisco School, La Fortuna, Costa Rica. The students were very excited about being able to follow the traveling art project using computers in the lab donated by the Grand Circle Foundation, OAT's parent company.

Why We Do What We Do ..

The other day, my great-grandma in law came over to celebrate my son's Christmas a bit early. During a bit of downtime, my youngest, Miles (5), asked his grandma Lucille to sit down and do some painting. At this urging, the 85-year old Lucille nodded in perplexed, yet content agreement to paint with Miles. As she pondered what to etch, she said that she had never painted anything in her life .. ever. She had never touched a paint brush with paints in her entire life. One of those rare moments of age and coolness in life when you watch with anticipation. Probably the coolest several minutes to see my boy that has been immersed in art his entire life meet his grandma at the proverbial easel as she finally creates her first real painting ..

Art in the Early Days

Growing up, my best friend, Matt Sweeny, and I used to really hit the links and get autographs from a variety of sports figures. From the KC Chiefs practicing in Liberty, MO, to KC Royals players that used to go to malls and golf courses to mingle with the autograph hungry public. My friend Matt passed along when I was 16 and years back his mom gave me his scant baseball/sports card/autograph collection. As a small glimpse into what I consider art from the early years, here's a bit of a tribute to Matt's effort and our friendship ..

possibe mayoral art

After lying these two pieces of kid art down on benches in loose park, i took my son down to the playground. During this time, I watched how folks were interacting with the pieces. Shortly after I placed them, the Mayor of Kansas City, Mark Funhouser, was strolling up with his wife and son. They stopped to peer at the piece and the message on the back, but decided to lay it back down. Good times ..
