i have finally fully recovered from july and the fact that miles has started pre-school .. as such, i am painting an white rocking chair with sunflowers for my mother-in-law and have just began a new series of 'women' .. i dig doing the sketching and painting of women - gives me a better view on a very delightful species .. more importantly, i think my wife really enjoys them .. cheers out there ..

selling the city in sun
got a call from the river's bend gallery in parkville that one of my paintings finally sold .. after having my work there for nearly 6 months, it finally happened .. on other fronts, i'm gearing up to do a nice, new series of 'women' paintings .. i dig doing themed pieces because it gives me that added insight that is so needed as a male, at times .. cheers out there ..

Circle Paintings Lately
This has been my second 'circle' themed painting I have been commissioned for in the last several weeks .. the first one was a reprint of a commissioned circle piece I did for a person years ago .. this framed reprint will reside in the Grandview Alternative School .. across the hallways at the Center for Alternative Instruction in the Grandview School District, I made a piece called 'Circle of Courage' that is based off an actual design/credo .. they were happy with it .. other than that, i'm going to start painting an old rocking chair to continue my more subdued romp in the artworld .. cheers ..

Bad Art Museum & More ..
I just had a friend tip me off to a new web site called - 'the museum of bad art' .. it's a haunting, yet delightful romp through all that is odd, found and bizzare .. take a look on your own - http://www.museumofbadart.org/index.html - also, i'm starting to really miss the regular intervals of painting .. got dirty in the studio this morning and it felt real nice .. also, i just framed a commissioned piece of art for the Grandview school district .. it's going to hang in a conference room .. keep on out there ..

Contests & Kid Room
I just entered my KC Landscape painting into a competition put on by Harrah's. The winner will get a 90-foot mural put on a downtown building and $10,000 - onto more realistic measures, I have tweaked and hung a night/day painting pair in Miles' room. I'm having a hard time finding some prized photo albums I need to get some ideas churning .. as I keep looking for them .. it grows delightfully colder/autumn outside .. enjoy ..

Making Art for My Son - Small Travels
As the quietude continues, I realize that the only thing I have been doing for months is creating art for my son's room. It's quite nice and I'm just prepping myself for a new schedule and more time in the studio. As far as shows and such are concerned, the only thing that is still going on is the River's Bend Studio in Parkville, MO .. The other day I got some pics from some of my travel pieces in Hawaii. Also, Miles and I have gone to Peculiar and Harrisonville on some mini trips to drop stuff off .. enjoy your life out there, ya hear ..

mile's room art
just finished up a piece specifically for miles and his new room .. thought I would test run this on him before hanging and he dug it .. good times .. so, yesterday I got my slides and returned check from the westport art fair .. nothing more in the empty package .. so, i survived as an alternate - maybe next year .. cheers ..

Resting in the Planning
it's been seeeloooow in the photo.paint camp lately .. a very much needed, yet odd kind of break from the veracity that has been going on for the last several years .. trying to come up with some new approaches, doing some art for miles' room and a coupla other commissioned pieces .. overall, it nice to ebb and flow when i want to do some work in the studio .. stay tuned ..

Healing 9-11-01 Via Art
My loverly wife Caroline had a very profound notion the other night about all of my cityscape paintings I have been doing lately .. she said it was my way of coping or healing after 9-11 and she's very right .. I wouldn't have ever consciously jumped into window frame scenes with city scapes as some healing mechanism to that day that likely scarred us all in ways our subconscious won't full let on about .. but, maybe I found the healthiest way my brain could find to come to that grand healing conclusion about a damned bad day around this country .. but, I was actually in Venice, Italy that day and didn't get home until a week later .. but, the pangs hit me in a very profound, yet different way .. at any rate, it was a good assessment of a nice series .. cheers ..

Slight Emmy Win
In a very small, almost minute way, I was a part of an Emmy win the other day with my work through Current.Tv. The station picked up the award for “Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Television” and I was a small part of that with my Kansas Flooding piece that aired through July. Currently, I am trying to see if my 'Travel Photo.Paint' piece gets aired as well. No word yet, but for all of you voting and pulling for it, it's all well worth it. Tune in and enjoy it out there, kids ..

More Travel News .. The Spreading
One of your pics is going to Ireland later this month. One was dropped in Sydney, Australia over the summer. I haven't gotten to check on the other yet, but one was suposed to go to Hawaii too. - Lori, Kansas City Troop Leader
I'm headed to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in mid-October and will be in Livonia (Detroit), MI, too, early that month. Send me several items because I'll be all over the country for work the next many months. Glad to help.

- Brian, Blue Springs, MO
This morning I ran into a friend while having coffee. He told me he'd received an email from a friend of his asking him to check out a web site that linked him to video documentary that included a photo of my neighbor Dan, who he went to highschool with...got all that? Six degrees of separation, as always, led me to your the details of your project and I'd like to get involved! I travel here and there, but I have friends in faraway places that I think would get a kick out of your project. How can I get involved?

Vote 'Yes' For My Art

This piece has been posted on http://www.current.tv/ for consideration to be aired nationally .. in the meantime, you can vote on this piece by clicking on this link - Click here to view and vote - and in the meantime, i'm readying myself to rid this self-imposed exile from the easel and begin throwing some paints around .. stay tuned and thanks for your continued support .. cheers ..

Art Alternate
I got word from the Westport Art Fair coordinator that I'm an alternate for the fair that is coming up in September. Kind of feel like I'm back on the baseball team and the starter might come down with the stomach flu and i'll come flying in with all my paints and canvases. So, gear up, I'm selling baseball shirts with a smudge of paint for the low price of sixty cents a piece. Odd and interesting, this art world in KC is ..

iowa travelin' home
my trusted confidant, inspector beaudoin, deposited several of my paintings up at a ball field in iowa during some rock and roll shows .. here's his report:
Hey man,
Your art has now traveled to Des Moines, Iowa and Principal Park. In the first picture, I posed your piece of art near an empty Iowa Cubs kiosk. In the second, we use the Jumbo Tron as a backdrop. I dropped off your piece in left field GA during the first show, Collective Soul. By the time Third Eye Blind came on, it was gone....hopefully in the hands of someone not gouging their eyes out because Third Eye Blind was playing.
This is just the beginning, Joe.

july coffee girls mix-up
just wanted to drop a quick line to everyone that the july 6th first friday at coffee girls has been postponed due to a scheduling screw up to august .. it's likely one of the very few times that i will tell a televised audience a lie, but that is the way it is .. no sweat .. we are moving and vacationing well in july and that is more important than anything .. enjoy the heat out there .. cheers ..

Post TV Thoughts
i told my loverly wife caroline before this TV interview that my perception of what was going to happen and what was to actually happen was going to be huge .. and it was .. i thought i was going to interviewed on my 'photo.paint travel' bit, but it turned out that i was being interviewed about my upcoming coffee girls show and my youngest son miles .. i ended up taking control of the interview and it all turned out to be good publicity .. also, i got yelled at a bit by the producer for missing my pre-interview bit .. this was becuase she was poor at communicating exactly where I needed to be .. those poor people in network news are so nasty, overworked, under-paid and waiting for the big 'paris' dream to fall into their laps .. it's hard to talk to them about their reactions - but, it all happened .. click here for a rather low rent look at the interview and a cleaner copy will be done soon .. thanks again for everyone's continued support ..

taping the time lapse
been spending last weekend and this week filming quite extensively the stitching together of one Kansas City window painting .. from picking out the canvass, to sketching to painting .. it's coming together quite well .. I plan on hopping over to Moby's web site for some quality music to layer within the short film .. I'll post as soon as it's done .. by the way, i'm trying to get some slide film developed for a submittal i'm doing for the westport art fair and not having much luck .. these old school folks need to graduate to the 21st Century and leave the archaic and expesive slide film alone .. it's a completely uncool request these days to make folks spend 9 bucks for a roll of 24 and about 10 bucks to develop them, if you can find a photo mat that will do it .. let's graduate to 2007, judges .. bye bye .. joe

time lapsed painting construction
for a good long time now, i have been wanting to speed up a time lapse of me doing a fairly large painting from start to finish .. the next big piece i do will be the one .. should be good times .. in the meantime, i'm considering applying for the westport art fair and attending a conference for disabilities this summer .. still waiting for some responses on some other things to keep the summer thunder rolling all smooth like ..

student travel piece is siezed
i have started to teach computer classes again to students in the school district i work for .. been doing this for about two months now .. well, this weekend miles and i dropped off a piece at a local park .. we have been putting them on pic nic tables in park areas .. one of my students asked me what my full name was today and smiled wide saying he picked up my piece over the weekend .. he's gonna take this sucker to california for a nice photo.paint travel ride .. feel like i won the lottery in a small way .. cheers ..

newphew art winner
my nephew, nick, won 1st prize in his entire school for a very cool sleek black sculpture he put together .. also, he won a 3rd prize for a replica of van gogh's starry night .. they are both quite impressive .. several times i have tried to sit down with nick and show him a thing or two, but he has it within him .. he's aiming for a career in the video game arts and he's on his way .. good work, sir .. cheers ..

koi kash in a klip
went in today to pick up the last of my publicly displayed artwork at the blu koi .. while there, a manager handed me a wod of bills in a paper clip .. felt like i was involved with some underground bullshit as i slipped the wod into my front pocket .. it felt nice in that illegal, legal sort of way .. so, i'm officially hanging no where and am currently drumming up business .. keep your eyes open for new shows .. cheers ..
auction silence
haven't heard anything back from Our Lady of Peace School or KCPT on the most recent auctions that went by .. in the art world, no news is good news .. if you get a call, it's to pick up your stuff that didn't sell .. so, for those who own these new pieces and are reading this - hang the piece well and recommend my stuff to your enemies .. i'll gladly take their money and ensure they aren't as much a pain in the ass as they are now .. cheers ..

donkey art: jackass style
there's a donkey down the way here in grandview that the kids and i feed regularly .. his name is ebeneezer and months back i painted up a piece .. then, more recently, i met the owners, ben and victoria, to do a story on the donkey in a local publication .. click here to read the article - also, i just posted a video out there that is a compilation of the donkey's scream when we approach the fence to feed him .. click here to watch - that's our story and we're sticking to it .. other than the donkey, i'm trying to drum up some new shows for the rest of the year .. maybe in parkville, maybe in lawrence, maybe in a shop nearst you .. cheers, joe

long week and one sign
it's been a hugely long week and i was fixing up loose ends .. not a lot of paints flying in the studio .. what did happen was .. : i painted a sign for miles' occupational therapists that says 'massage' with a bit of a pond flower at the end, got the mile's MRI pics/paintings framed, cleaned my studio up a bit, took down the cerner show and talked with a local reporter about the travel photo.paint project that will be profiled in print here in the next coupla weeks .. she is actually going to be a part of the venture when she takes a coupla my pieces to colorado - by the royal gorge - to drop some off and report on it .. in the meantime, a new travel photo.paint picture gallery is posted - click here to enjoy - and get some damned sleep, people .. joe

haggle for kc in paints
last night, several neighborhood fellas came by for a nip of drink and some laughs .. somehow, they ended up in our bedroom talking about a painting over kansas city from the kck riverside .. one of my better pieces .. they tried to barter the piece for beer, but i told them i didn't drink .. then, they said, 'why are you drinking that beer?' and i said, 'hmm, i forgot' .. sure, let me think up a quantity that would befit this piece and i'll get my receipt pad .. they left later forgetting they asked anything about anything .. i'm wondering through the dean morriarity style insanity of their talk if they even thought about making a valid bid .. cheers ..

the spring auction brigade is in full swing .. i will be in a weekend, televised auction for KCPT .. click here for more details .. also, i will be in zen boy's school auction at our lady of peace on april 28th for a fundraising dinner .. in that auction are 3 sets of photo.paint greeting cards, along with a wood cross painted and emblazooned with a pic of the church .. i used wood from their reconstruction project to garner my goods .. click here for more on that one .. other than that, i'm just painting in the garage .. cheers ..

surprise koi sale
over the weekend, i went over to the blue koi in the 39th street district to pick up some food and had a bit of a surprise .. about 4 of my pieces were hanging in the back of the restaurant for the last 3 months and one of the pieces sold .. it was the italian umbrella piece and it was purchased about a week ago .. no one got in touch with me becuase they said they didn't have my contat information .. makes me wonder what would have happened to the pending check and existing pieces if i never made it back by .. ? enjoy the mysteries out there ..

ouija arts
some months back, i got an ouija board for zen and i to give it a spin .. we did it several times successfully and got a fella named 'hewig' .. it was and is rather odd to potentially channel spirits, but better zen does it with dad than strangers .. now, the experiment is over and converted into art .. enjoy
